The Bone Witch
Blind Date With A Hellhound
Nariah Boyd, bone witch and leader of the Resistance Against Vampires, was generally not one to accept an invitation to a blind date. And certainly not one on Valentine’s day, arguably the worst day to go out to dinner for any reason. Nariah was aromantic, aro for short, and she simply didn’t find any of the strappings of courtship to be worth her time. Candle lit dinner was all well-and-good, she wasn’t opposed to it, but the idea always seemed to mean a lot more to her friends than to Nariah. It just didn’t make her insides warm and fuzzy like people expected.
So it wasn’t the Valentine’s day trappings that had her fighting for a parking spot in the itty-bitty lot behind Marcelle’s, an Italian place that absolutely required a reservation a month in advance. No, she could do without the decorative glittering garland and balloons. The candy hearts were an exception, those were great, and hard to find after the big sale at the end of February.
She snaked into a spot in the front row, her big blue Jeep nosing out two other contenders, and when a vampire hissed at her from the window of her little Sonata, Nariah flipped her off without looking back.
